Movie Review: Transsiberian

Transsiberian was a decent film. Pretty basic storyline, nothing out of the ordinary, really, but the environment was kind of cool, and not too common (plus, cold wintry surroundings are best I think for isolation, insanity and murder movies, just watch 30 Days of Night).

Review Days 6-7

What’s the deal?
I’m sure you noticed I didn’t review yesterday and I didn’t post about this morning either.  And this review is also coming much earlier than the other ones, time-wise.  Well, you’re right.  Yep, that’s about all I have to say about that.

OK…so…?
Yesterday, however, went fine.  I got things done, I worked very hard for about 7 hours on my PC cleanup project and got it almost completed, though I hit a snag when I couldn’t just reformat the hard drive like I had thought I would be able to.  I’m going to see if I can boot it up from a boot disk and if that doesn’t work, then I guess I’m stuck reinstalling Windows on the machine for a second time.  That would really suck, but if it’s the only option, then I guess that settles the argument.

Alright… today?
Today I woke up on time, but kept lounging around in bed for a while, and had to jump up and get ready for work, rushing in for the morning shift on a Wednesday morning.  Oh yea, we were busy.  No, we really weren’t.  Oh well, it was with a friend and a slow, quiet morning, so we had a decently good time.  I got a tad bit of Christmas shopping done (as in one gift) and did some errands for my mom, so in that mode I was productive.

Come on!  Productivity…?
In my own pursuit, though, I got home and didn’t work on my own projects.  I even was prodded politely by the man I’m working for (not officially, but I’m helping him out on a project he’s working on for a friend of his) asking how my progress was going on the project.  Not so good.  I guess I haven’t been home for a long time, and I can still schedule some work time around food and my nightly entertainment/wind-down session in the basement with some good movie-watchin’.  Tomorrow though I’m going to have to study for my final exam in Sociology – and then it’s finally over!

The whole she-bang!
The productivity project was fun.  It was a great chance to figure out how I work, how I might want to work, and really how I should work and approach my daily life in terms of task-, time- and goal-management.  I still have a lot to learn and a lot of work to do in the area, and I think I’ll keep up the posting on here about each day with a regular, if shorter, installment of the day’s progress.  I’m going to eat dinner, followed by a roto session, followed by my nightly wind-down and fun time.  If anybody’s interested in productivity, definitely keep checking back here, or subscribe to the RSS feed, and check out David Seah’s blog I mentioned a few times throughout this series.  Right now though, I’m off to eat some tasty food.  Yummy!

Productivity Day #6

So….the plan?
Yes… the plan.  I’m going to bring my dad to work for something he has to do apparently (which he only told me about last night, anticipating I’d not have anything else to do on a day without school or work), and after however long we’re going to be there I’ll bring him back home, and then I’ll get to work on doing something.  I’ve started right now working on my sister’s Christmas present, and it’s going to take a while but it’s going to get done.  The good part about it is that it happens in chunks of time, so I’ll be working on it just a bit and then have to let it do its own thing, so I’m free to get updated on my email, RSS feeds, or another projects I’m working on.  Otherwise, it just takes time.

Next update
I don’t have much else to say, since the past few days have really not worked out in my favor.  It seems life’s changing right now and not really in a good way.  I’m not going to go into depth here, but it’s not all that much fun.  I will update today about the methods I’m using to  plan the day and see if they’re more or less helpful than what I had been doing.  But I know I don’t like the hour-by-hour method, and I do like the general project outline list method, so I can look at it and determine which ones need working on the most.  I’ll update tonight with some ideas for how to digitize the whole thing, if I can come up with any.  That’s really the only thing I need to manage now.  But we’ll see how it goes.

Review Day #5

How’d it go?
Pretty horrifically.  I didn’t get any work done on any of the projects I’d planned to make progress on.  Out of the entire week, I’d say that today was really the only failure to be productive.  In my defense, however, I did have a morning rush to bring my dad to an appointment, then to get to work 3 hours late because of that (someone covered my shift, but still not something I like to make into a habit), then to be there for 4 hours straight without a break (no big deal) and then t have to call the late list and have a lady get mad at her $30 in late fees and tell me to close her account.  On the one hand, that doesn’t make sense, to close an account because you had 4 movies out for 5 days – and then be surprised that you owed a bunch of money!  But on the other hand, I could have offered a deal to her if she came into the store and acted politely to the staff on hand at the time.  Anyway… so that, along with constant pestering by my impatient and in pain dad this morning and then discussing some family matters with my mom after work, it all just added up to quite a non-productive but nonetheless not-depressing day.

Final Notes
Well firstly I’d like to get some work done, otherwise I’m going to have to say no for now.  It was an alright day, and I’m hungry at the moment, so I’m going to get some food in me and settle down to a nice Australian drama film.  I just finished watching the futuristic sci-fi action movie The Last Sentinel and was quite pleasantly surprised by the caliber of the film – highly recommended to any low-budget action filmmaker out there… or any filmmaker, for that matter.  It was a great watch.

Productivity Day #5

What’s the plan, man?
Well, today I’m not planning much of anything.  I’ve got my list of tasks and i know pretty much which ones need to be completed first (I’m focusing mostly on the Christmas presents right now), and how much work has been done on them already.  It’s a much more relaxed way of going about planning out a day while still being sure that I’ll get something done, and I’m not worrying about the awkward feeling of an hour-by-hour plan.  It’s a nice way to run the productive day.

So…get to it!
I’ve got work this morning, coincidentally, though I didn’t realize that I did, and I also have to drive my dad to an appointment I didn’t know he had, and the two obviously conflict, or I’d be at work right now.  So I’m going in for a late half-shift and then coming home to get started on the productive afternoon/evening of the day.  It’s a fine deal, the only thing I wish is I could find a way to mix projects so I could do one time-consuming one and some smaller, less time-consuming ones all at once.  And now that I think about it, I believe I can do just that.

Next update
I will update tonight with a review of the day’s progress, but I think not posting a review last night threw my routine off a little bit.  It feels that way, anyway.  On the better side, at least the foot and a half of snow we got is mostly cleared off the roads, so they’re driveable, which is nice.  Today I’m back to the routine though, with the morning intro post and the nighttime review post of the day’s antics.  Hope fully they’re not real antics.  Hopefully they’re a bit more organized than that.  That’s the whole point of this experiment.
